Since very early years James had always loved animals and insects as seen in the family photos. It was Oct 2014, when James visited a friend who keep bees as hobby in a forest in the east of Europe. This is when James first came close to the world of honeybees.
Following that initial experience, James became interested in beekeeping when he was just ten years old. So, after research he joined a local bee keeping association. James and his father attended the Bee Keeping theory course, the practical training, and later James passed the Basic Beekeeping exam and joined the BBKA. Later James was excited to find out that his late great grandfather was also a professional beekeeper.
Genetic, perhaps?
As a beginner, James started with one hive in 2015, to caring for over sixteen hives in 2023.
In addition to being a beekeeper, looking after bees and extracting J&J Pure Local Honey, James delivers educational presentations to raise awareness about Pollinators in general and the Honey Bees specifically addressing its key role in sustaining the eco-system.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, James delivered his presentation over virtual platform (zoom) for Children in Home Education, many of them with special Educational Needs. After the COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, James provided one to one practical sessions to various people who are interested to know more about the world of honey bees, and the honey extraction. The age of those attended these sessions ranged from 6 years old to late seventies.
After an introduction to the world of bees, the session included an on-hand experience where the individual helped James in opening a beehive, search and locate the Queen, the Drones and the Larvae, and sometimes assisting in extracting honey.
In 2024, James decided to take his interest in Bees and the raising awareness that they are in real danger to a new level and to a wider audience. Believing that younger ones have real opportunity to turn the tide to do more, James is reaching out to Schools offering his services to deliver presentation in person. Accompanied by an observatory hive, he gives pupils a chance to get closer to the bees in a safe environment, helping them build an appreciation for those fascinating insects, and also explaining their essential impact on the environment.
